Harold Camping: Shadow of Antichrist

What we expected has come to pass: Nothing.

So why give this non-denominational Evangelical the time of day here, on a traditional Catholic blog dedicated to the Traditional Latin Mass and traditional Catholicism?

Well, because people like Harold Camping harm true religion and those who practice the true religion. Sincerely following Our Blessed Lord in honesty and truth is under attack, not just by secularists, militant agnostics and atheists, and the irreligious, but by people like Harold Camping who provide the irreligious an excuse to hate true religion and the virtue of religion.

We should expect this kind of thing in the fringes of the heretical, Protestant world, where an off-the-rails Christianity has over the years spiraled even further into the abyss of error and darkness. It is these end-of-the-world scenarios that pass for religious experience in the spiritually bankrupt, modern, non-denominational Evangelical communities. Most non-denoms didn't believe Harold Camping, but none of them know the spiritual depth of a real, sacramental, relationship with Our Blessed Lord, and thus they are all to one degree or another spiritually bankrupt, leaving a vacuum filled by charlatans like Camping, Benny Hinn, Jimmy Swaggart, etc.

We've all had a good laugh, but the not so good laughs will now commence. In the comedy, perhaps we are over looking the tragedy, not just caused to those who trusted Camping and exhausted their life savings on his lies, but the damage that this does to the virtue of religion in our society, and the sacrileges that will follow.

This sad little man, Harold Camping, false prophet and charlatan, is anything but a harmless, comedic figure. He has, and I believe wittingly, opened up a Pandora's box of ridicule that has already gone to fever pitch on the late night comedy shows, and will spew forth from the sewer of the modern media for the rest of this week and perhaps longer. He has opened the floodgates of Satanic derision, not just directed toward himself, but toward religion, and specifically toward Christianity, and Our Blessed Lord.

Harold Camping is a shadow of Antichrist, because his charlatanry has led, and will lead, to the ridicule of Our Blessed Lord and mockery of His Holy Name. He has provided a convenient excuse for those who hate God to wag their heads and jest at the expense of Christianity. These people make no distinctions between the Campings of this world and his fantasies, and sincere believers and right doctrine. More to the point, these secularists, agnostics, atheists, and the irreligious perceive Catholicism and traditional Catholics as no better, as fringe "fundamentalists", and they will, we can be sure, try their best to convince the world that the practice of the Christian religion is for "wackos" and frauds.

That pales in comparison, however, to the shameless mockery that Our Blessed Lord now endures by the Godless, who won't let pass a single opportunity to express their contempt for the Holy Name of Jesus.

That is no laughing matter. We ought today, and for the rest of this week, endeavor to undo the damage that Harold Camping has done by prayer and acts of reparation for the mockeries directed toward our holy religion and the Holy Name of Jesus.

  1. Not to make light of this, but I live in Cincinnati, and according to Mark Twain, even if the end of the world did happen today, it would be ten more years before it really happens.

  2. Many traditionalist Catholics, both in communion and in schism, are routinely inflamed with end-scenario talk from their own leaders. Please use your blog to clean your own house first. Name and condemn the "Oh, he is here, Oh, he is there" chastiement-Armaggedon-end times nonsense in our own Holy Church.

  3. Perhaps if the Catholic church made some type of reparations for the mass molestations of Catholic children worldwide, and disbanded the missionaries of charity, whose sole purpose appears to be torturing the poor and dying in India, there would be less reason to be concerned about the "mockeries directed toward our holy religion and the Holy Name of Jesus".

    Just sayin'!

  4. It is my take on this that not all Biblical prophecies have been fulfilled. We are not there yet.

  5. "Anonymous Just Sayin" your comment regarding mass molestations and the Missionaries of Charity in India is based on fiction and ignorance. May God have mercy on your soul for making such outrageous accusations against His Church.

  6. Did Jesus say, "If they reject the Master, they will reject His servants?" It is sad that Mr. Camping gained such notoriety and apparently a number of misled followers. Surely even protestant fundamentalists s/b aware that Jesus said that as far as the end of the world, no one knows the assigned time except the Father.
The calumny of Mother Teresa's order in India indicates a mean spirit - not from the Lord.
We need to pray for trolls who try to infect our blogs. The Lord can do something with those who actively dislike (or think they dislike) His Church; He much prefers people to be hot or cold, rather than lukewarm.

  7. We need not worry. This whole "end of the world" ridiculousness has already be forgotten by most, which is one good thing about the Speed of Media Life these days.

  8. It's easy to spew such nonsense and hatred without giving your name. these are the actions of cowards, not Christians/

    Ummm, whom?

"Please use your blog to clean your own house first."

You are welcome to start a blog to deal with any fantasy you want. As for me and Ars Orandi, well I'll do as I see fit. Thanks for visiting the blog, and God bless!

  10. Non believers will find something to deride in Christianity even without a Camping; and let us not forget that God uses even Camping for His own purposes.

Those Christians who prepared 'just in case' woke to a Sunday of renewed hope, trust in Jesus and fervour in their commitment, i.e. they learned the true meaning of being always ready, as Jesus taught, for that 'thief in the night'. Perhaps you'll say they should have done so from the outset - yes, but being a Christian is more a becoming than a lobotomy - it is a process of becoming Christ-like and there's bound to be some falls along the way. During the latest Regina Caeli the Holy Father Himself mentioned how "slowly" Jesus teaches within both the soul and in History.

So before we burn the poor misguided man, let us pray for him and his, as Jesus taught; and let us thank the Lord our God whose patience is our opportunity for salvation.

  11. I am speaking peaceably, stating that Harold Camping is one of the many false prophets who will come, according to the Gosphel, DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIES OF THIS MAN! FOR JESUS SAYS THAT HE SHALL COME AT A TIME THAT WE LEAST EXPECT, MAN, NOR THE ANGELS IN HEAVEN, NOR SATAN, NOR JESUS HIMSELF KNOWS THE TIME, ONLY GOD KNOWS!!!! READ YOUR BIBLES FOR ANSWERS !!!! God Bless, and keep the truth known!!!

  12. I think we demonize Harold Camping for the wrong reasons. The man is, I believe, sincere in his beliefs, but those beliefs are clouded by the sin of pride. Mr. Camping claims that he, and he alone, knows the mind of God, who has blessed Mr. Camping (so he claims) with the knowledge of the precise date (and time!) of the end times. It is clear from Thessalonians, and from other bible passages, that such time cannot be known by man.

Mr. Camping is indeed a pitiful man, but he is dangerous for his utter lack of shame or repentance. His pride prevents him from admitting his error. This is, as the writer sets forth, a convenient excuse for those who hate God to lump all religious people into the "nut" category. We would be best served by distancing ourselves from Mr. Camping, and by denouncing his heresies.

  13. To "anonymous" who responded to anonymous "Just sayin'"

Here is the link to SNAP, the survivor's network of those abused by priests.

    http://www.snapnetwork.org/

You can tell them their abuse was based on fiction and ignorance.

There are also several news articles reporting the conviction of some of the Nuns of Charity for torture.

  14. I would really appreciate it if people posting as Anonymous would leave a name.

So, latest Anonymous and the Anonymous "just saying", what exactly is your point? Does it have anything to do with Harold Camping?

    ReplyDelete
  15. By the way, SNAP is an anti-Catholic organization that is more interested in destroying the Church than helping victims. When the founders of SNAP start to target the public schools, then I'll take them seriously.

  16. David,

My point was simply that the Catholic church has enough of it's own issues for non-belivers to mock, without being concerned with the likes of Harold Camping. Atheists and Agnostics tend to be fairly well informed about religion, and there isn't much chance anyone will get the crimes of the Catholic church confused with anything Camping has done. You are correct in thinking that non-believers do group you into the same type of wackos and frauds (and in some cases, more severe criminals), but that is based on the church's own history, not the actions of anyone else.

By the way, S.N.A.P. is a registered charity, and also has other branches, including a branch for survivors of molestation outside of religous groups. This would include the public schools, so you can start taking them seriously now.

You may want to look into an organization called Voice of the Faithful, which is a Catholic organization which supports the survivors of clergy sexual abuse...

My name is Mike, by the way...

  17. Mike, That "P" stands for "priests". Currently SNAP is actively engaged in bring litigation against 0 synagogues, 0 Protestant ministers, 0 teachers or public school administrators or other personnel, 0 parents. They are actively engaged in dozens of suits and other litigation against Catholic entities. I still don't take them seriously.

Voice of the Faithful is a cabal of liberal dissenters and other malcontents who are actively attempting to democratize the Church. They are heretics.

I will not tolerate you or anyone else linking to SNAP or VOF on this blog for now on. You more than welcome to start your own blog, Mike, to promote dissent, error and heresy, but please refrain from using Ars Orandi as a springboard to these vile organizations.

    God bless!

  18. The topic of this post is Harold Camping, but some people have tried to use it as opportunity to unjustly bash the Catholic Church and promote dissenting groups by trying to turn attention to the unrelated reality that some Catholic priests are and were perverts. Since this person advocates groups and ideologies that caused us to have these pervert priests in the first place, and I warned him to stop promoting such filth, he still persisted. Therefore, I deleted his most recent comment. Hopefully Mike will get the hint and go troll elsewhere.

  19. "My point was simply that the Catholic church has enough of it's own issues for non-belivers to mock, without being concerned with the likes of Harold Camping."

So... because there are and were sick men, perverts, who became priests and broke the law, I, an independent layman, can't point out the damage done to religion by Harold Camping in a completely different and unrelated way?

Is that a "point", or you just telling a Catholic to shut up?
